More stitches! And a Little Bit of Nostalgia ...

So I've returned to work in an office full time and it's doing exactly what I've geared all my goals toward since I was 11 years old. I'm back in a newspaper newsroom, doing exactly what I'm comfortable with and what I feel I know like the back of my hand.

After so long working from home and raising my babies myself, I was worried I would be so "out of it" that I wouldn't remember what to do once I sat in that desk. But that's not the case at all. In fact, the job is very similar to the very first job I got as a cadet journalist, only now I have a lot more wisdom that only comes with age and the experience of raising three kids! So I'm feeling like I'm caught in a time-warp where the last 15 years haven't happened - before kids and experience on a metro daily newspaper.  It's not a bad thing, it's just weird. The juggling of the kids' extracurricular activities and work hours has been complex, notwithstanding the fact that dear hubby has been working in Sydney of late. But honestly, he is going so far out on a limb to help me adjust to this big life change. He even packs the kids lunches at night! Well, ok, he's packed mine too on occasion!

This is the first time I've ever pictured this scenario, as I had always planned my career up to the point of having children, then after that I was happy to be a completely devoted work-from-home mum. I never envisioned going beyond that point, yet, here I am. Working in an office again, as a mum. And a journo. And I'm so much more relaxed about it all.

So, what does that mean for my designs? I'm not sure at this point. I plan to continue but at a more relaxed pace. I still have hundreds of projects on my hard drive that are itching to be put into the shop. I am still overflowing with creative ideas for kits and templates, and I still enjoy making these to sell. But I am wondering if I haven't sacrificed my own scrapbook albums along the way. My kids milestones' are piling up and I have no layouts to showcase and commemorate them. This keeps me up at night. Much more so than worrying about whether something I published today will get me and my company sued tomorrow. And now my design time is even more finite, it's going to be hard to fit everything into my day.

Add to the mix my newfound enthusiasm for community volunteering as a Scouts leader (because I'm soooooo into canoeing and camping! No, really, I am. Seriously.)  and becoming a soccer coach (even though I know not the rules of ANY sport!) and I find life is all happening around me whether I am ready for it or not!

Do any of you out there ever feel this way too?

Anyhoo, here's something that's overdue to come out and will be popping up in my store this week.

Included in the download are 25 separate stitches, all measuring almost 12-inches long, and a stitch hole if you prefer to add those to your background. They are available in Personal Use and Commercial Use versions. AND if you are one of those scrappers who prefer to work all off the one png sheet, I've catered to you too, by adding in the uncut version as well as individual png files.

So I hope to see you hanging out at Zig Zag Scrap, the girls are so wonderful there and I feel so lucky to be a part of the team!

Catch'ya on the upside.

New Store in time for DSD!

How's everyone shaping up for DSD - International Digital Scrapbooking Day? It's generally the equivalent of "Boxing Day Sales" here in Australia, and that means, it's BIG! But you don't have to camp out the night before to get in line for the shop doors to open, and there's no chance that you'll get trampled in the rush to get in! Yay!

Well looky here .... This place sure looks like it's going to ROCK during DSD .... Hhmmmm, what a nice friendly happening new place I've come across here ..... (wink wink!)

Oh, what's that? Just in case you missed it ...

Stay tuned for an excited new designer opening there in the nick of time for DSD!

9th & Bloom has shut down

Hey everybody,

It's with a lot of sadness I have to tell you all that 9th & Bloom is to be shut down immediately because of an ownership malfunction (! No other way to put it!) regarding Paypal.

Please do not try to checkout with any of my designs, as you will not be able to process it through to completion, and if you do, the download links will not process, and I won't be paid anyway :( It is the same for all designers there at the moment.

It's been a thoroughly alarming 24 hours and I am SOOO not into all this drama and chaos. I'm without a shop for the time being, and it's still too early to announce any decisions regarding the future of Brine Design scrapbooking kits. I'm thinking I'll retire them for the time being, I'm feeling so completely gutted from this.

I'm sorry for any inconvenience you may have had at the checkout for the past 24 hours. I'm still not aware of the full extent of it all.

I'll continue my blog and will announce any decisions on here, or on the facebook page. So stay with me!

Leaving FPD today ...

Well, an opportunity has arisen that I can't say no to, and I've decided it is time to say goodbye to my homeground at Funky Playground Designs. I feel like I'm leaving the nest, or moving out of home for the first time!

It's been a whirlwind of a ride, and I am really so grateful for all the friends and support I've gained during my time there for the past 10 months. It will be a sad farewell, so I won't say much for fear of blubbering....!

But, there is good news, I will be having a grand opening at my new shop next month, with 30 per cent off everything! Can you guess where it is? And I'm currently working on a very cutesy collection to help celebrate the grand opening, can't wait to reveal it!

Freebie: Tossing out Coupons!

So who wants to go shopping?

I'm back from holidaying at Jindabyne, in the Snowy Mountains, where my family and I went trout fishing for six days. And gee, I feel blessed! We caught 20 fish, smoking and cooking them a few hours after catching them in the evenings.

I became acquainted with Butterscotch Schnapps, and it likes me very much because it gave me no headaches or silliness - just pure gratitude for the gorgeously vivid sunsets and sunrises over the lake.

I had my very first internet cafe experience (what a novelty) because I had a magazine deadline while I was away. How many caramel lattes can one have while trying with all her might to send ONE email to the UK, without success? Hmmm, it was good to then be free of the computer for a while - so much happens when your eyes are open like this, instead of being glued to a monitor, lol!

I got to test out my first aid skills on an 87-year-old man who had fallen from his quad bike and become trapped beneath it. Fair bit of blood, and well, because he was "older" I wasn't sure if his eyes were glazed over like that because he was out of it, or because he was just old. He was shaking quite badly too, which was a bit alarming until he informed us he had Parkinson's Disease, lol. Glad to say he turned out ok, a few skin tears (to the bone) and concussion but relatively well off, considering. I don't know what it was, but the two of us seemed to connect - his eyes were wise and very embarrassed at all the fuss going on around him. He couldn't really talk much, but we shared quite a few knowing smiles as I held his hand and we listened to the various tales of what had happened to him flying around us - they seemed to grow with the excitement, lol. But all he wanted was to get back to his wife June, get back on his bike (which was wrecked). He was desperate not to go back into hospital, where he'd just spent a week. Everyone kept admonishing him for riding the quad bike at his age, but I could tell he wouldn't be swayed - he'll be back on it as soon as it's fixed up. And why not? He was out there, rounding up cattle, giving his work dogs a run, fishing morning and night - living life. So much more enjoyable than being cooped up inside a hospital room waiting to die. I hope I'm a comfortable risk taker at his age.

Dana had her first ride in a boat, and wouldn't stop waddling all around the edges (totally freaking me out). She kept yelling out "faster! faster!". The boys got to pull in a couple of fish too, Riley is so proud to be a fisherman! Harvey was responsible for gutting and cleaning them too (growing up so fast!).

I was responsible for eating them.

And EGGS! I've been a farm girl all my life, and it's been my chore all through childhood and now parenthood, to feed and water the chooks and collect eaggs, which I've NEVER liked to eat. All of a sudden, on this trip, there was a shiny new egg-poaching pan that I HAD to experiment with. OMG. I poached myself six eggs each morning, some for lunch and sometimes even for a quick snack before heading out for night fishing in the evenings. I couldn't get enough and I am now proud to say I like my eggs runny, gooey but not raw. The whites have to be opaque, the yolks liquid. But not so runny they fall through your fork, no. Dexter-style. Now I just have to get all the kids to eat them too.

Unfortunately, none of these photos go with any of my journalling ... but that happens. All the action pics are on DH's blackberry, which of course I can't have access to to download all the whopping fish photos. But you can use your imagination, hey?

Anyway, today's "freebie" is a 25% discount coupon, to use in my FPD shop. You can use it for anything in my shop there, and the new "Reflection" goodies out tonight are also discounted - so you get a double-discount if you go shopping this weekend.

Type in smellsfishy? in the coupon box during checkout, and you'll see the discount off your order. Coupon expires April 30.

Have a great weekend!

The Day Persnickety Saved Me

So. The time has come to sort out all these printed layouts that have been sitting on my WIPs desk for a few months, awaiting a home in an album. I usually sort these the night that they arrive in the mail, but this time, events happened (both catastrophic and devastating) that delayed my usual process. And then more real-life stuff happened that made it a hard job to tackle.

This was the order that contained all of the layouts I created when I was pregnant with my fourth baby. I was so thrilled, so excited. I documented it all. I made pre-made albums for its whole first year. I researched and documented its growth stages. I bought up big on pregnancy kits. And then our world came crashing down three months later. And I haven’t been able to look at these pages since.

To compound the problem, my 2-year-old daughter immersed more than half my order in spilt green cordial. For more than an hour. She spilt her drink cup onto my order pile, sitting neatly on the coffee table ready for sorting after dinner. And I didn’t realise until after dinner clean up and bedtime stories were done. So, they were sitting in sugary drink for a long time!

For some reason I must have made a comment about the spilt cordial on my facebook page that night. I received a very prompt reply from a Persnickety Prints representative telling me to just wash them in water and hang them out to dry. Promptly!

I did this, and was very grateful for the unsolicited advice from the “horse’s mouth”. But when I ran out of bench space to dry them off, I left the remainder for another time. I’m talking an order of about 180 12 x 12 prints!

Alas! When I checked the rest in the morning, the remainder were stuck together and ripping the front off the next image. So, I ripped a few faces off a few layouts, before dumping this job in the “too hard for now” file and leaving the sticky cluster for another few months.

Well, I came back to this job last night. Can’t tell you why, as I had a million other jobs to do on my list, but this seemed to be long overdue. So, I started ripping a few more faces off my pages, before I thought – “why not just immerse them in water again?” at least to get the sticky stuff pliable again.

So I did. I didn’t really have much to lose, as I’d figured I’d need to re-order these prints again anyway. But to my amazement, as I sloshed these 12 x 12 pages about in warm water, they started to become unstuck from each other! I couldn’t believe it!! So I got a bit excited and peeled a few apart prematurely – resulting in curled corners – but it actually worked!! I have hung out these others to dry. If I thought some would have a few water spots on them, I immersed them again and hung them out to dry again.

It’s working! I actually don’t think I’ll need to reorder any of them!

I know some have very peeled edges or corners – but I can live with that – as I think the heaviness of my albums will sort that out itself. I am glad this seems to have worked, as I just could not have binned some of these pages – no matter how mangled – because they held a lot of sentimental value to me. I just couldn’t throw my lost baby in the bin.

So. I am not affiliated with Persnickety Prints at all. But I am telling you, they really saved me this time. What was once damaged and unuseable, is now preserved and treasured.

Tuesday Tip: Blogging

My tip today is don't change something that's not broken!

I am disliking my new website design a lot, not least because the new format seems to squish and distort my images. The link colours are the same as the rest of the text, making them harder to spot. For my own organised satisfaction, I think I'm better off going back to a three-column layout.

So, expect a few more days of website maintenance in the near future. I just can't bring myself to do it straight away. I'm not a tech-head and it usually takes me sooooo long. And I always end up losing something in the switch. Bleh!

Tuesday Tip: Don't Give Up on {Project 365}

Pffftt!! Yep, that’s what’d I’m saying too. We are now into our 43rd week of the year, and the last {Project 365} layout I can remember creating was back in Week 27. So, ahh, yeah, that’s a bit of catching up to do.

But, that’s ok. I can do it. And so can you. So you may have fallen behind a little lately. I know I’ve got a great excuse for doing so. {You probably do too}. I’ve been designing up a storm! Trying to stockpile a heap of kits and digital scrapping goodies for when I launch into the digital design world come 2011. I’m gonna be famous baby! (well, I want to sell something at least!) And I’ve been doing a hell of a lot of layouts for my CT designers.

Try this for size: 56 layouts for Mscraps.com in the month of September. And that’s not the only Creative Team I’m on, you with me? But it’s just that there are sooooo many great products out there that beg me to download them and give them a try. Honestly, I lie awake at night thinking about all these page ideas and special techniques that I could try out on the next layout. And then, when it comes to 4:30am and I STILL can’t get to sleep, I get up, make myself a cuppa and get onto the computer pronto – I need to release these creative endorphins! PRONTO!

So I’ve taken to keeping a tiny notebook beside my bed, to at least write down these fantastic ideas. Because I forget them as soon as I start making the school lunches, and can’t for the life of me, get those ideas back. So now you see why I find recording our weekly happenings as a family is so important. Because I’d simply just forget it all, wouldn’t I?

Ok. So I’m missing a few weeks in April, when I had only a disposable film camera at my disposal. {Mwahahahaha!} And yes, it has been kicking around inside my insidiously large handbag since then – 6 months – awaiting the day when I walk into a photo processor to get it developed. It has great camel-riding pictures on it. So, understandably, I left those few weeks out of my 365 until I processed and scanned them in. Um, I actually didn’t record the journalling then though ... So I’m hoping these pictures will be enough to trigger some kind of memories to record.

And the big gap from July – September? Um.... I think the dog ate it?

At the start of the year, when I had a really great system working, I would schedule my {Project 365} in every Sunday night, so that I would actually have a visual reminder to DO IT. Every week. And it worked, because I had a little box that I could tick each time I completed a week. I never got more than 3 weeks behind. But somewhere along the way, I stopped writing myself those calendar reminders and so then I forgot to get onto the computer late on Sunday night, and instead had a drink and a movie and went to bed. Weeks went by and I actually forgot {Project 365} existed.

Until now. THERE’S ONLY 10 WEEKS LEFT!

So. My plan of action is to start with this week. And then work backwards. I know there will be some weeks where I didn’t actually take any photos at all. ARRGGHHH!!! But all is not lost. I will look over my emails and see what was happening at that time. I will also take into consideration any birthdays during that time. And lastly, perhaps I should check my phone history and web browsing history to see what things we were researching/looking up during that time. These are all triggers that will help me fill in the blanks. And if I’m missing photos, there are other options.

I can fill the photo spaces with patterned paper. I can download a stock photo for something I am describing (like lots of rain, for example). I can scan in some of my children’s artwork for that period. If I am really desperate, I can substitute photos for thumbnails of my own layouts! I know I have been scrapping during that time. I could maybe even just cut and paste the journalling from some of those pages and include them in my 365. Because there are no rules saying you cannot plagiarise yourself!

{Project 365} is about memory keeping. Pure and simple. So I don’t really care about the kit or embellies I use to decorate it. I need to get down the photos and journalling. I will find triggers for that in some of the layouts I’ve created during that time. And it’s not like I’ll be repeating myself, for this is in a different format, and if experience is anything to go by – everyone in my family tends to read the {Project 365} album a hell of a lot more than they do their own individual scrapbook albums. Is that just because I have boys? I don’t know.

But now that my two eldest sons are starting to read, scrapbooking albums have taken on a whole new meaning for them. They can actually read them! They laugh and ask me if that really happened and they love to share their memories of it with me verbally. This gives me immense pleasure. And I’ve got to say, I greatly enjoy reading back through the {Project 365} albums too, marvelling at how quickly time passes me by. Wish my husband would look at them too, lol!!

So I think that’s a part of the problem here – I haven’t printed out any of my 2010 {Project 365} yet. I printed all of last years, every few months, in 8 inch x 8 inch format. But this year I was planning to print it out in a photobook – mainly because I think it is actually cheaper than to print each page individually – but also because the bound photobook just looks nicer, and I can print out multiple copies for the grandparents. (Not that I ever have, but the good intentions are there!)

I was spurred on throughout the year last year, because I’d read back through my albums and realised each time, what an amazing resource this project was. For families now, and for the future generations. Can you imagine your future daughter-in-law looking through your album and realising she is not the first woman to become a first time mum!!??? Priceless. She’d be able to read all about my own foray into motherhood and what challenges I faced at the time. How bloody interesting it would have been to have read the same thing about my own mother and grandmother!

So I’m telling you – keep at it. It’s just worth it. There are only 2.5 months to go. You can catch up on the missed weeks. Even if it means just publishing photos without a lot of journalling. I mean, anybody can write the who, what, where, when and why of a photo, right? Don’t worry about it being different to the method you have used in previous months. Don’t worry about having to include every single detail of what went on. Just summarise the best bits. Even just a few lines of journalling will be devoured by those who look through the album. In fact, graphic-design-ally speaking – less words are better – if you can manage to convey the message you intended in fewer words! Clearly, I cannot. The length of this post is testimony to that!

So. See-ya. And good luck with it.

** I have opened up my own {Project 365} album here, for you to gawk at.

*** I keep whispering {Project 365} because I’ve found out it’s actually a trademarked phrase now! So perhaps that is why this scrappy phenomenon is slowly being referred to as “Photo-A-Day” and “365 Challenge” and “Project 52”. Just so you know ...!

Blog Updating ...

If this blog looks slightly wonky or wackily crazy, it's because I am in the middle of a major blog re-design and I'm busily transferring or re-creating all my thousands of widgets! Bear with me while I make this change. Should only take a couple of hours ... (!)

MUFOG time! Want to Learn to Digi Scrap?

A bunch of us scrappy girls are getting back together again to spread out all our supplies on a terrifically large crafting table, eat about 8 cooked meals per day, and gossip all hours into the night about all things crafty. Wanna join us?

It's MUFOG time again. So what's that? Monthly UnFinished Objects Group. Check out the details here on Facebook or at the website here. Basically, it started with a bunch of local ladies getting together each month for a chat and craft night. Like a crop, but you could bring along any "job" you've been meaning to finish. Anyway, it created so much interest that the invitation was extended Australia-wide to anyone who might be interested. It soon moved to much larger accommodation and went all weekend (twice a year). All meals are provided and you get to spread out your crafting gear for the whole weekend without needing to pack it away until Sunday night!

And guess what!! I'll be teaching a beginner's course on digital scrapping. So if you've got the itch, now is the time to SCRATCH! I'm only charging $10 AUS. PLUS I'll be giving each participant one of my very own digital kits for FREE, worth more than $10 in itself! So if you're inclined to come along, talk to the organiser here.

MUFOG is now held twice a year, so if you miss out on this one, I may see you at the next!

And as a bonus (to both you and me) this time I'll be hauling a few ute-loads of my traditional paper and stamping supplies there to sell off too. What a BARGAIN! Some of it has never even been opened. I'm great at collecting stuff, but not so quick at using it, lol!

I'm talking big brand name gear, like Stampin Up, American Crafts, Kaisercraft, Wild Asparagus, Bazzill, Basic Grey, Crate Paper, Heidi Grace, We R Memory Keepers, Chatterbox, Scenic Route, SEI, Sassafrass Lass, Making Memories, Walter Knabe, Flavia and more - and that's just glancing at my patterned paper stash!!!

I'll also have paper racks, storage containers, lots of rubber and clear stamps, inks, transparencies, punches, mini albums, embellishments, chipboard stuff, alphas - basically as much as I can carry. And bear to part with (I still love all this stuff. So, so much .... Hope I don't regret this!!!)

So email me asap if you are interested in attending my class. You will not be disappointed!

Charity Collaboration Kit @ Songbird Avenue

I have had the chance to have a play with this one already - so much stuff, and so versatile. But I went with the theme of the kit this time (hooray, hooray, will wonders never cease!) as it prompted me to think about all those I've known who have had to deal with this terrible, terrible disease. And the statistics were one in four women will suffer breast cancer (when I last checked) - got me thinking how awful it'd be if it was me or one of my three sisters, or my mother.

This kit goes live on September 1.

Here's what I've made.

Closet Culling and Less-Is-More Principle

I wrote this post back in early April. Enjoy.

Ok. I've got a lot of traditional scrapbooking stuff littered throughout my "scrap-room". I put that in inverted commas because my husband seems to think it's the "junk-room" or "dump-anything-in-here that-doesn't-belong-on-the-kitchen-bench room". And my kiddies use it as the "I-want-to-create-with-Mum" room, full of lovely, space-consuming art paper "inventions" that they show me and want me to record somewhere (even if just inside my brain).

So it's junky. And I hate that.

But it IS the right colour. Thanks to my recent home-decor painting spurt. And it IS starting to resemble the space that I want it to be. Small parts are coming together. The rest is just ... well, a change of habit. Mess that needs to be catalogued, fixed, finished or thrown away. (That's awfully hard to do when you're a hoarder). It takes about 30 days to change a habit. Or in my case, 30 years.

I always thought I was tidy. I mean, I can remember at uni having my top desk drawer utterly organised and everything had a place. I knew when someone had taken off with my sticky tape, because it had left a gaping hole in my draw. I knew where to find a working pen. I knew I had staples still in my stapler.

With a family of five, however, it's become somewhat difficult to keep everything in it's place - and especially hard if there's no "place" to put it in anymore because there is TOO MUCH MESS!

It's so easy to pack away at pre-school, because everything has a box to put it in. And bad, bad stuff, like permanent pens, are not within kiddy reach. They are never, I repeat never, left on the dashboard of your new car.

It's easy to clean up after a holiday in a cabin at the beach, because the three outfits you chose for everybody to wear throughout the week have already been washed and hung and folded ready for next use. No overflowing washing baskets to  "catch up" with. And toys! Well, they all fit into a single backpack. It's no headache at all packing up while on holidays. Because you've only got a car load and not a lifetime load.

But come home, and well, there's just way too much stuff to handle. Toys overflow from one room to another. Clothes hang out of washing baskets like I haven't laundered in 5 years. Can you guess what I've been doing today?

Yep. I've culled.

Which, for a hoarder like me, is hard. But it gets remarkably easier each time I do it. And I've truly got to wait until I have stuff spilling out of my ears like today, to get into the right frame of mind to do it successfully.

I've cleaned out my kid's closests. They were overflowing. I figure if they have less clothes to change into every five seconds, then I'll have less washing / ironing / grief thereafter. So each boy now has no more than seven shorts / t-shirts/ tops / trousers. Well, actually, my eldest son has only really got one of everything because he doesn't get any hand-me-downs from cousins.

My second son had way too many clothes that are now waiting to be stored long-term until our next boy comes along (JOY JOY JOY if that happened!) or to be given away to my siblings for use with my future nephews. Whichever comes first. Spread the joy, I say. He was inheriting hand-me-downs from three cousins and well, it all got a bit much really. I loved most of the items, but I really don't think he'll ever wear 28 t-shirts. Not before he grows out of them in 6 months.

So now they have nice, sparse shelves. And it even allows for untidy re-folder's like Riley, who can't seem to get the whole "put it back as you found it" scenario. And they can see the "piles" each item belongs to. I've even made up some shelf labels for those of us who are still reading-impaired.

So my moral today is really LESS IS MORE.

Less stuff = More room for sanity inside your head.
Less mess = More time to enjoy life.
Less stress = More liklihood you'll enjoy time with your offspring.
Less clutter = More independent children. And husbands. (They don't need to ask you where everything is ...)

So what are you doing today? Tell me your tips for a more organised life and share your sucesses / failures with the rest of us struggling mums!

How Many Is Too Many Albums?

I've come across this question a bit lately. I've asked it myself a dozen times. You each have to find your own answer because there are so many variables when it comes down to it.

I've currently filled 3 albums per child (= 9) and also have 3 Family albums, and each child has a separate School album (made with paper supplies and which house all their school books and certificates and formal school photos).

So that's a grand total of 14. So far. And they are aged 2 (no school album started yet, but the supplies are ready and waiting - they match the other two siblings' school albums), 5 and 7.

Whoa.

That's a lot. I mean, it's a lot just to house here on the bookshelf, let alone for them to take with them when they move outta home. By then, keeping the current average, they'd have, oh, say 12 volumes each. Average. That's a whole lotta real estate space they are consuming.

But there comes into play a few variables when working out these figures:

More baby photos = more layouts scrapped. As they get older, there are fewer "milestones" or "cute" moments to scrap about. Sorry, no offence, but it's just a reality. There's less to scrap about as the growth rate slows. In my experience, anyway :)

First child v's Third child: I try to keep the number of layouts per child at roughly the same number, but, well, my third child happened to be my first little girl. So, well, I had a whole lot of new experiences  as a mother to scrap about. So she probably has even more pages than my first.

Age of the children: My first and second children were born pre-digital camera days (doesn't that sound OLD??) So I obviously took a lot less photos back then, because it was an expensive business to snap away "blind" (that is, for you post-digital generational folk out there reading this, on film cameras you didn't know how well your photos came out until you got it back from the processor months later.)

When you discovered scrapping: I did a bit of sticking photos on fancy coloured paper when my first was born. I even used to try using the same bit of paper twice over by sticking more photos on the back of it (!!) Most of it was simply writing down everything I thought I'd like to remember. I didn't really realise there was a world of inspiration out there about how to make it more creative.

Traditional Paper v's Digital: Paper scrapping is one. hell. of. a. lot. slower.

How organised you are at cataloguing / printing out photos: Specifically for you paper scrappers out there - a lot of it depends on what photos you have on hand when the creative urge hits. And for digi scrappers, if you can't bloody-well find the darn photos on your computer, then it's hardly going to entice you to scrap much.

The Size you Scrap At: I've got a lot of mini-albums that only take one sitting to finish. Do these count? Well, they each record a bit about us as a family. So yeah, I guess they do count.

Your Own Scrapping Style: Are you a multi-photo scrapper, or a portrait one?

So my grand total is far too many to count. Is that excessive?

It's really up to you to decide how many albums you want to make. I don't think it would make me happy to limit myself creatively. Yes, I do scrap and print them out and album them all up, with the end goal to be to present them to my children, or their wives, so that their childhood can be understood and reminisced about. And it may be a bit cumbersome to walk out the door with 50 albums.

But I also do it for me. I like scrapping. I like reading back over them a year or two later. I love, love, love it when the kids get them out and look at the pictures. My eldest is now reading, so it's even more of a pleasure for me to hear him quoting my journalling back at me.

I guess I probably should try to slow down. For neatness' sake. But to hell with that. I've got lots to tell about my family. About my thoughts. About our experiences together. And I like recording them.

Blog Award

First of all, some housekeeping - a lovely, warm and resounding thank you to all those kind people who emailed me or sent me hand-made sympathy cards. It does help.

Secondly, I need to thank Shelley, from Shelley's Stamping Ground, who awarded me this, right out of the blue:

It's always nice to know when someone's been inspired by something I did. Part of the award is to share 10 things about me, so here goes:

(In no particular order, ok?)

1. I believe aspirational dreams do come true. Several of mine have.

2. I'm a farmer's daughter and grew up on a large grazing property. I've mustered cattle and sheep, killed snakes as a matter of course, euthanased animals that were in extreme pain, crashed my motorbike, and been completely covered head to toe in manure, on more occassions I can remember.

3. I like to make people feel good about themselves

4. I'm a sucker for dark chocolate - I'm talking like 75 % or 85 % cocoa. Potent!

5. I love looking after kids and animals - we have 3 kids, 1 dog, 1 canary, 17 guinea pigs, 3 chooks, and
2 rabbits.

6. My husband is the chief cook in our household (lucky me - except when he experiments with egg recipes)

7. I drive a dual-cab ute

8. My husband and I have been together for 15.5 years - this, despite him forgetting my name when he first introduced me to his parents .... ;p

9. I decided to become a journalist when I was 11 years old, and did so. I worked as a reporter, photojournalist and sub-editor at various newspapers during my career, most recently The Canberra Times

10. I still have to write a novel. Any ideas anyone?

Now my turn to bestow this award on another 10 bloggers. This is a hard one, as I haven't been blog-hopping much lately. And the potential to leave somebody out is scary...

Again, in no particular order:

PiggyWink (my other creative outlet - breeding cute "designer" guinea pigs)
Diane (An Aussie simple scrapper with inspirational themes)
Erica (no longer current but she sure used to scrap and mother sensationally)
Rachel (photography at its finest)
Mad Cow  (F**ing hilarious about modern motherhood!)
Danielle (Gorgeous designer, yes, but even nicer in real life)

... and I'm having trouble collecting more. May come back later on that one ....

Scrapping has Changed Me & DT Call & Blog Party

Hello fellow lurkers, late-night scrappers, and friends. I've been thinking this scrapping stuff has certainly changed the way I live my life. Three years ago, while I still had the urge to record our family's memories and "savour" every moment I had raising my child, little did I know it would influence so much of my daily life nowadays.

I have made lots of new friends - INTERNET friends - errr, three years ago I would have thought this was a bit creepy...

I have fulfilled my goals to get "caught up", to "get published" and to "get on a design team".

It has reinforced my desire to change careers, into a graphic design field rather than keep with news journalism.

It has given me the foresight to plan & dress children according to what colour scheme I plan the next layout to be (!!)

It has even provided me & my family a new place to holiday, after I read how good the desitination was in a fellow scrapper's holiday layout.

Most of all (and there are many more reasons, but I don't want to bore you silly) it has developed a sense of self in me - that I have a mission, a purpose, an express desire to "save our lives" on paper. To record our memories, yes, but also, to live life in a way that is worth recording. It gives me a sense of calm to know that if anything ever happened to me, my children would know how much I loved them, and they would never need wonder what their first word was, or what happened on their first day of school.

It has also given me a hobby that I'm so extremely passionate about that it infiltrates every other aspect of my daily routine. It's furthered my photography skills, journalling skills, dedication skills, competitive edge, home management & organisation, home decor; all in an environment that is positive and rejuvenating and so, so rewarding.

It sounds so awfully drippy, but it has produced a "calm" in me, as Thelma would say in Thelma & Louise. I've found my place in the world.

Anyway, if you are reading this and still hesitating about whether or not to get into the craft, then ... poo to you :P

Onto more exciting things, Emily Powers has put out a DT call, to be announced January 18. Check out the details here.

Here is my entry. Good luck to all who take the plunge and give it a go!

This is made using mostly Emily Power's Funky Love Song kit at Oscraps.

Make Me Famous

My 6.5-year-old son Harvey says to me, "Mum, I've got something very important to ask you - will you make this famous?" And so I have. It's now available for the viewing pleasure of everyone throughout the world. Ta-Da!
Oh, and Riley, 5years, has also requested famousness.
